Time and again, ace tennis player Sania Mirza had been linked to famous Bollywood stars including Shahid Kapoor and other eligible celebrities, but finally the beauty with talents has tied knots with her childhood friend and Hyderabad-based businessman Mohammed Sohrab Mirza, 23, an MBA student and son of a city-based businessman.

The engagement ceremony was held on Friday night at a star hotel in Hyderabad amidst relatives and close friends of the two families. The celebrity guest list included Badminton player P Gopichand, D Purandareswari, D Venkateshawara Rao, actor Vishnu and GVK Reddy were present on the occasion.

There was also some minor ‘hungama’ at the engagement party when two youths demanded her family to cancel the engagement claiming that they were in love with Sania. However, the security men handled the situation.

Sania Mirza looked gorgeous attired in a light golden and emerald green swarovski studded ensemble worth 20 million rupees by designer duo Shantanu-Nilkhil which she wanted to match with her antique jadawi-zewar(Choker). She was gifted a solitaire ring worth a whooping 10 million rupees by her fiancée.

Sania Mirza became the first Indian woman to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament at the 2005 US Open, defeating Mashona Washington, Maria Elena Camerin and Marion Bartoli.



In 2004, she finished runner up at the Asian Tennis Championship .In 2005 Mirza reached the third round of Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Serena Williams.On February 12, 2005, she became the first Indian woman to win a WTA singles title defeating Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine in the Hyderabad Open Finals.



As of September 2006, Sania has notched up three top 10 wins against Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova and Martina Hingis. SaniaMirza won the Wimbledon Championships Girls' Doubles title in 2003, teaming up with Alisa Kleybanova of Russia.

Two men caught stalking Indian tennis star Sania Mirza

Two engineering students smitten by Indian tennis star Sania Mirza (below) have been arrested and accused of stalking her.

Ajay Singh Yadav was apprehended Thursday as he tried to barge into Mirza’s house, apparently to profess his love, police said. Singh reached the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, rushing to Mirza’s house and demanding to see her, police added. He was taken into custody when he refused to leave.

His arrest came a day after another student was arrested when he tried to enter Mirza’s house. The student threatened to kill himself if the engagement ceremony was not canceled.
